Several People Rescued After Boat Capsizes On Long Island Sound

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — There was a dramatic water rescue on the Long Island Sound on Sunday evening.

A woman was trapped underneath an overturned boat, with little time to waste. The Coast Guard, NYPD and FDNY teamed up to make the rescue.

CBS2 has learned the boat capsized in the water off the North Shore of Nassau County, near Sands Point and Prospect Point.

When rescuers arrived, a man screamed that his wife was still under water. Officials said an NYPD diver spotted the woman tangled in fishing gear. Rescuers were able to reach the woman and pull her to safety.

At least six people were taken to the hospital.
