EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — A teenager died Wednesday after falling through ice into a pond in New Jersey.

It happened just before 5 p.m. on Civic Center Drive in East Brunswick.

Police say three juveniles were on the frozen pond when they fell through the ice.

Two of the juveniles were able to get out of the water and off the ice on their own, but the 13-year-old couldn’t get out.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to pull him to safety.

He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Six police officers and two firefighters were treated for hypothermia. Two of those officers and one firefighter were taken to the hospital.
